Introduction
For freshman year I went to Alameda High School, which was a very difficult school. I transferred to ACLC in 2015 learning extraordinary new things of the school. I had several friends already attending here and getting along with others was easier than I thought. The environment around here has encourage me to be friends among younger learners too. It was my first time being in such a small school. Now I feel more connected to ACLC than any other school I have attended.
Personal Qualities, Work Habits and Attitudes
Personal qualities, work habits and attitudes I gained throughout this year were self-management skills and sociability, by setting goals, monitoring and working along with peers with the time given for the assignments. Having free periods created new opportunities to successfully bring up my grades from freshman year and be more productive. Leadership in senior year and CCC allowed me to be more involved by helping the facilitator. I started to participate in more activities I haven't, like public speaking. Taking full responsibility for a productive CCC class having it controlled by my caring/open attitude led it forward. Pursuing others as a team needs a lot of fundamentals in CCC: setting goals, knowing others, braveness, adornment, concentration and etc.
New basics
Since coming to ACLC, I have become a more open-minded and talkative person. Being in English has improved my communication, writing and reading skills dramatically. Reading all sorts of literature, mysteries and stories in English has been able to give me different type of aspects of the world. It has helped me understand that words can really mean anything. Socratics allow me to guide classmates in a discussion with many viewpoints about an article and dig deeper into it’s meaning.
Thinking and Reasoning Skills
In ACLC it made me understand learning isn’t just memorizing information given for everything. Instead, I learn the complexity of the work and am able to apply it to my everyday experiences. Connections I made throughout learning have helped me to feel at ease. I plan to learn more by asking questions that would bring out the deeper meaning behind the reading or problems. My dreams have been to succeed and create better habits for any challenges that I face in my future. Right now I have to make independent choices to benefit my future and most of my knowledge comes from my learning key points. ACLC has improved my implementing skills for independent studying and understanding the content in classes. For most classes I look forward on getting ahead in what I enjoy learning compare to others classes I don’t.
Interpersonal Abilities
I decided to do my internship during senior year with volunteers from culturally and linguistically diverse background organization. Henry Haight elementary school has a program called Bay Area Community Resources(BACR) after school. BACR is a great program, allowing me to facilitate elementary school kids and learn in a new environment. At the beginning of the program I would try to corporate with kids unfamiliar behavior and get them to be more energetic to set a better mood for them to do homework. When I help kids afterwards with homework, it would usually make them more creative and thoughtful. If they weren’t in a good mood I would patiently let them understand it’s their time and I don’t have control over it. Eventually they would start to make better individual choices and motivate themselves. From this experience I had to learn to make positive relationships with the community by leading it to a new direction and encourage those who are behind.
Technology
This generation everyone uses technology to benefit the society we have today. Proper use of technology can give understanding to an middle school I had to take a lot of notes to keep up in algebra 1 to understand how to do the problems. My fingers would be tired and not capable to keep up, but online you can do your research and still learn. College classes that allow you to use technology for note taking on a phone or laptop benefits the students to take quicker notes down as well. Not everyone wants to go to the same location as others. For someone who's busy you can just message your facilitator or etc through the use of email.
Conclusion
It’s amazing how I lasted till my last year of high school. Before coming here I was careless and thoughtless for others. From this community I learned so much from these three years and would continue to educate myself to achieve what I want in my adult life. I can’t appreciate it enough that everyone who I needed was here to guide me through to my steps now.
